I had some time before dinner today to watch the NBA Playoffs and I decided to bust out one of the Sloshee Margarita Ice Pops that I bought from Eddie’s Drive-In Liquors in Rockridge. This would be a great treat as the weather gets warmer in the Bay Area, you know, some refreshments for adults. It’s made with water, lime juice, cane sugar, tequila and triple sec, and is 10% ABV.
The packaging calls out that it’s “Made With Blue Agave Tequila”, which made me a little wary because it didn’t say ‘100%’ Blue Agave. Maybe it was made from one of those cheapo ‘mixto’ tequilas that use added cane sugar for fermentation in addition to the sugar from the blue agave plant. That said, I was pleasantly pleased with the flavor — it wasn’t overly sweet and the tequila flavor was pleasant and refreshing. They sell these in boxes of 10. I can definitely see them being a hit at your next BBQ.

They’re a local Oakland company that started a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, they’ve just now started a distribution drive, so they only places you can get them are in neighborhood liquor stores. There are 4 stores in the city that carry them, and 1 each in South San Francisco, Mountain View, Rockridge, Walnut Creek and Danville. Click here to find the store nearest you!
